Watch C-SPAN on Monday, August 25 at 4:30 pm MT to see NARAL Pro-Choice America president Nancy Keenan speak during the opening events of the Democratic National Convention. Monday's headline prime-time speaker will be Michelle Obama. The theme of the first day of the Convention is "One Nation." That evening Nancy will join a line up that includes Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; former President Jimmy Carter; Sen. Claire McCaskill; Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., among others.
The Democratic National Committee's 2008 platform contains a strong pro-choice plank. Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said in a statement, "The language in this platform reaffirms, in the strongest of terms, the Democratic Party's solid commitment to a woman's right to choose as defined by Roe v. Wade. We are pleased that the party adopted language that is consistent with NARAL Pro-Choice America's work to ensure that women have access to a full range of reproductive-health options."
